From time to time FilmRunner.Net likes to spotlight a group, organization, or person who is promoting independent filmmakers. Today we'd like to spotlight Project Resolution in Richmond, VA, USA.

Project Resolution, presented by Yellow House, is a free and open monthly forum where filmmakers are invited to present their work and to receive feedback and critique from the audience. Projects are encouraged to be under five minutes and to be based on pre-established audience prompts [This month's prompt is "There Will Be Milkshakes"]. There are no submission fees, or pre-screenings. Just bring your film with you to the show!

pResentation is the time after each show where one filmmaker has a chance to screen their film that would have been too long to fit in the regular show. It’s a chance for filmmakers to get the Project Resolution feedback that you can’t get anywhere else. Many great films have been shown so far, and if you have a film you would like to screen please contact the Project Resolution Staff either online or at the show.

This month's Project Resolution is:
Sunday, April 27th 2008 @ 7pm
At The Firehouse Theatre, Richmond, VA, USA

Back in early December, FilmRunner members  19th & Wilson's Eric Espejo, Richard Friend, and Donnie Conty found themselves at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC during the rehearsals for the 30th annual Kennedy Center Honors for the Performing Arts. Legendary director Martin Scorsese was one of five honorees.
After rehearsals for the 2-hour show, which aired on December 26th 2007 on CBS, the 19W producers had a chance to meet the visionary director for the first time--and had the honor of presenting him with a DVD set that included their movies TechFellas and The Departed!

Understanding the premise of the parodies, Mr. Scorsese examined the DVDs and exclaimed, "This is hilarious! Thank you!" He also recalled an associate as having already seen TechFellas!  Espejo briefly explained the concept and inspiration behind both projects, and how well each has been received online. "They're internet hits!" replied an enthusiastic Scorsese. "That's terrific!"

It was a tremendously gratifying experience for Espejo and Friend, who co-wrote both short films and have long admired Scorsese's iconic work. "To have this chance to meet him, to thank him for what he's meant to us, and to actually share our work with him--that was special" said Friend.

Director Martin Scorcese "is a true original; a fearless artist who brings out the best and most inspired work in others and in the process continues to surpass himself. Difficult to pinpoint, impossible to ignore, by turns shocking and rousing, challenging and always entertaining, he doesn't so much make films as define and redefine film itself. 'Martin Scorsese is the patron saint of cinema,' wrote David Thomson in The New York Times, 'he is a defender of the faith.' That faith, in the power of film, in the endless possibilities of art and life, is at the heart of this man's body of work..." (Taken from Kennedy Center website)

If you'd like to see the film TechFellas, you can now catch it on the small screen in your own home! Just in time for The Oscars, and as a tribute of sorts to Martin Scorsese's first win last year, the cult classic parody will be showing in the VA/D.C./MD, USA area on Local Point TV - Comcast channel 205, Verizon FiOS channel 867 or Channel 7.3 on your HD Antenna -  at 7pm on Sunday, February 24th.

From time to time FilmRunner.Net likes to spotlight a group, organization, or person who is promoting independent filmmakers. Today we’d like to take a moment of your time to tell you about the Toronto Short Film Project in Toronto, Canada.

The Project is a co-op community of film makers, writers and actors gathering together and producing short films to gain experience in film making (and hopefully selling them as well). Members are encouraged to try as many aspects of film making as possible including: producing, directing, writing, crewing, and performing.

The group meets weekly at 8pm on Wednesday nights in a 100 seat theatre with a project for screenings (296 Brunswick Ave. Just south of Bloor in the Annex in Toronto. Brunswick is half way in between Spadina and Bathurst Subway stations). Membership is open to everyone, though there is an annual fee for joining. The Project has its benefits though including:
• Drop In Centre – The Brunswick location is open 7 days a week, 12 hours a day for members to meet, plan projects and view rushes. The centre has a lounge with refreshments for members to chill while brainstorming.
• Screening Room - 8'x8' big screen for members to screen their films
• Editing Rooms - Editors can edit the short films in our in house edit suites with basic edit programs.
• Libraries of Short Films & Filmmaking books
• Annual film festival, Awards night, Seminars, meetings, etc.
• Green Screen Studio & DVD burning services– (available for a small fee)

The Toronto Short Film Project is doing its best to create a vibrant community of filmmakers in their city and we should all strive to create such havens in our towns. Filmmakers need to support each other.

FilmRunner.Net
seeks to do this on both the small and bigger scale – bringing together the filmmakers of the world as well as providing local resources.

If you’d like more information on the Toronto Film Project, check out their website, call 416 -924 -7201, or just drop by the Centre!

FilmRunner Kitty will be attending The Virginia Film Office and the Virginia Production Alliance's "State of the Industry" event in Arlington, VA on Tuesday, February 5th 2008.  This annual networking event is fun and free and an excellent way to bring together members of Virginia’s production community. This year an Expo is being included, where different companies will be able to showcase their work and materials. FilmRunner.Net has been invited to participate and will be handing out materials, promoting our member's films, and giving away several movies as door prizes. The Expo tables will be located around the edges of the main room, so the networking event and the expo will all be occurring in the same place at the same time. There will be hors d’oeuvres and an open bar serving beer, wine and soft drinks. The only formal part of the evening will be a brief presentation lasting approximately 15 minutes.  In addition, in another space, a small screening room will be set up which will be showing short films or trailers of films by Virginia filmmakers.  If you are going to be in the area, be sure to stop by and tell Kitty hello!

The event will be held from 6pm-9pm at:  National Rural Electric Cooperative (4301 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA) *Free parking is available under the building.

If you have an event that is promoting independent film or the indie community, and you would like FilmRunner to make an appearance or participate as a vendor, please contact us!

If you've ever submitted to a Film Festival, you've probably used (or at least heard about) WithoutaboxWithoutabox, started eight years ago, is known for its online application submission service for film festivals, but has grown into a virtual tool box for independent filmmakers.
Recently Withoutabox reached an agreement for acquisition by IMDb (the Internet Movie Database which is actually owned by Amazon.com). We at FilmRunner.Net wish the management team and staff of Withoutabox the best of luck in their endeavors and hope they continue the great work they have been doing in the independent genre.

FilmRunner.Net has had the honor of working with ReGen Magazine in the past, but now we are pleased to announce that one of our films is the subject of their very first Film Review!  Musician, writer, and FilmRunner member Ilker Yucel sat down to watch The ReBirth of Lucretia and share his thoughts on it.  Here is an excerpt from Ilker's review, (though I recommend reading the full article):

"The world of independent film is rich with creativity, filled to the brim with unknown and up-and-coming talents looking to make a dent in modern cinema. Robert Monson is one such auteur, and with The Rebirth of Lucretia, he strives to give viewers a 20-minute exploration into the surreal depths of psychological despair. Distributed by FilmRunner.Net, produced by Live Boulevard Design, and filmed on a digital camera in some of the grainiest, grittiest black & white tones you'll ever see, the film is minimal in its presentation but does its best to offer us a harrowing amount of visual and emotional depth..."

Thanks to Ilker and ReGen Magazine for promoting independent film and sharing their thoughts with us about The ReBirth of Lucretia. You will also soon be able to see the videos we did with them from Nuclearfest 2007 on their website. (For now you can view them on our MySpace page.) Please take a moment to send them a note or leave them a message thanking them for helping us in our mission to promote YOU and YOUR MOVIES! We are able to keep FilmRunner.Net a free site with the help of groups like ReGen Magazine and people like you who buy our members' movies.

The first video clip from FilmRunner's adventure at Origins International Gaming Expo 2007 in Columbus, Ohio is online!

For now, you can grab it in the Downloads section of the site. This 2:04 minute clip features Jon Collins of Tough Cookie Entertainment. He discusses the popular gamer film "The Fellowship of the Dice", which he both produced and performed in. Origins featured an indie film screening room this year which provided a welcome respite to convention attendees who wanted to sit down, relax, and laugh during the 5 day convention. Lenders Morgan, Love & Plutonium, The Living & The Dying, Hippies, River of Dread, The ReBirth of Lucretia, and Six were the movies submitted by FilmRunner that were chosen to sceen throughout the event.

"Fellowship of the Dice" was written by Tom Hietter and stars Aimee Graham (yes, Heather Graham's sister). The story  follows the the character of Elizabeth, a party girl on probation who accidentally meets avid gamer Sanford and gets herself invited to play the popular fantasy role-playing game, “Wizards, Warriors and Wyrms.” Desperate for something to do, she accepts and spends a long afternoon and evening plagued with confusing rules, high adventure and nerdy drama. Jasper, the Game Master, rules his gaming fiefdom with an imaginary iron fist. His painfully shy wife Gwen spends most of the game quieter than a deaf and dumb church mouse. Kevin, a temperamental eleven-year-old trapped in a twenty-five-year-old’s body continuously locks horns with Jasper over everything from missing DVDs to his tyrannical and unfair use of the game’s rules. Larry (Jon Collins), the gregarious aspiring actor, struggles to keep the peace. Things quickly spiral out of control and Elizabeth is forced to decide if she just wasted a night of her life, or if she truly has something in common with these oddball weirdoes.

http://www.filmrunner.net/index.cfm?fuseaction=order.moviedetail&item_id=29&item_category_id=Congratulations to Jeff Priskorn, Loose Change Entertainment, and the rest of the cast and crew of "Love & Plutonium"

The Filmrunner crew has selected "Love & Plutonium" as their favorite film submitted last month.  In addition to being one of the first ten movies chosen to appear on Filmrunner (a $200 prize), Loose Change Entertainment will also receive
$500 for being selected for the "Filmrunner Choice Award!"

This comedy is fun to watch, and draws a fine line between good and evil.  A little action, a little romance, and a whole lot of funny...  this film delivers excellent comedic performances.  Fast paced editing and good direction gives this film creative energy and demonstrates unquestionably that indeed "sometimes love goes BOOM!"

http://www.filmrunner.net/index.cfm?fuseaction=order.moviedetail&item_id=18&item_category_id=
A strong contender for the
"Filmrunner Choice Award", and also a recipient of a $200 prize is Lenders Morgan.  This intense thriller provides compelling performances amid an intricate storyline with strong sexual situations.
Stephanie Grote excels in the role of Taylor Feazel, a girl who disappears from a small Ohio town and unwittingly becomes a subject of repression and sexual curiousity.

This haunting drama from F3Films tells the story of two confused teenagers and the painful conflict thrust upon them amidst poverty and ignorance.

Eight other films each won
$200 prizes for being among the first ten movies to appear on Filmrunner:

Some Kind of Justice - a dark and intense movie about a serial killer.  Kidnapping, bondage, assault, murder, all spell mystery for the the F.B.I and the P.I. on the trail.
The Living and the Dying - a group of criminals stage a prison break to rescue a convict who knows the location of a stolen $2 million, but is critically wounded during the escape.
Hippies - this well-shot comedy focuses on five friends who take a road trip to Eugene Oregon in order to save the Earth.
Mellow Drama - A documentary of a b-boy crew featuring lots of breakdancing as the crew forms and grows over a ten year period.
River of Dread - a sci-fi comedy reminiscent of the old 50's sci-fi thrillers features invisible skeletons, an alien robot, and theoretical giant monkeys!
Genius - a dramatic character study of celebrity, prodigy, talent, and its collision with regular life.
The ReBirth of Lucretia - this stylized horror follows the fate of an immortal girl confronting insanity brought on by the torture of her own memories.
Pisser - the account of a fat, drunk, and stupid hot dog vendor, the hot dog mafia, and two filmmakers in pursuit of nudity.
